Pregnancy Update: 38 Weeks

It’s crazy to think that this might be my last baby bump update! At 38 weeks our son is no longer in the preemie stage, so our lovely boy could come literally any day!!! Let’s make this update a good one.

The Bump:

One thing that I find very funny is when people ask me how far along I am (they can tell I’m due to pop any day now). When I tell them 38 weeks, their response is something like “Wow, you haven’t dropped at all” or “You’re carrying very high”. My typical reply is this: “Well, he’s about 8.5 pounds already so he’s just occupying the entire space”. Which, for the record, is true. My bump definitely catches people’s attention and continues to expand daily. I always forget how big it is, but I’m brought back to reality quickly when I see myself in the mirror haha.

Feeling/Doing:

What have I been doing??? Haha! My favorite things are as follows, in order:

  1. Going out with Logan
  2. Sleep
  3. Eat Fruit
  4. Take Baths
  5. Buying Baby Stuff
  6. Netflix

Those are basically the main things that I do right now. Growing a baby takes a lot of energy out of me, so I love relaxing and pampering myself. It’s also pretty difficult to move around. For example, this week I literally couldn’t sit up because I kept rolling around on the bed!!! I felt like Violet Beauregarde from Willy Wonka when she turned into a Blueberry!

Logan and I have 3 of the 4 Birthing Classes under our belt at this point. We signed up for a Lamaze class, and we love learning about all the different options there are! The teacher is so amazing and open. We really love the class and feel so much more prepared! We shall see if we make it to the last class, or if baby has other plans… Eeep!

I have also been doing a lot of nursery prep – FINALLY. We put everything together for the crib, got the changing station all set-up, put up cute DIY shelves, and finally put up a painting we got over a year ago! I’ll make a post with the nursery details 🙂

I also finished the hospital bags! Find out what I put in our baby’s hospital bag. I also packed mine and Logan’s bag. I put everything in one carry-on suitcase. I didn’t want to have a bunch of bulky items for Logan to carry. Let me know if you want me to do a post about our Hospital Bag below. I guess I did a lot more in the past two weeks than I thought!

Eating:

Literally nothing has changed…. Fruit and Chocolate Milk/Hot Cocoa all day everyday!

Things to Do:

Honestly, all the essentials have been taken care of! Logan and I even cleaned and reorganized our home yesterday in prep for baby. I’m actually feeling oddly prepared… I must be forgetting something important!

One thing that I would like to do is paint the wood on the rocking chair white to match the rest of the nursery decor. Logan’s mom is coming over tomorrow to help me, so that’ll be done very soon! There are some items that I want to purchase, but I want to wait until our little one is here so I don’t waste lots of money on products he doesn’t like. For example, a baby carrier and mamaroo.

Doctor’s Appointment:

Our doctor’s appointments are every week now, which I love! Our son is big, healthy, and strong. The doctor says he is above average for weight. I think he’s 8.5 pounds right now. Yesterday, the 22nd, was his original due date before our first doctor’s appointment. They changed it to April 6th at the first appointment. I’m hoping that the doc who did that (I changed since) was wrong haha.

Anyway our last appointment was on Wednesday, the 21st. Our son’s heart was 150 beats per minute. Every appointment he’s been between 150-160 bpm so he’s very consistent! My belly is measuring at 40 weeks. Our son moves like crazy as if he’s trying to escape. I hope he figures out how to properly escape soon!

The doctor asked if I wanted to have my cervix checked, and I was curious to hear if any progress has been made, so I did. He was really surprised and told me that I was thinning well and that I was nearly 3 cm dilated. He mentioned that it is pretty uncommon for first time moms to have that much progress at that point in pregnancy. I’m so glad my body knows what to do! Now everytime I feel a contraction I wonder if they will continue and get more intense, or fade away. The waiting game is probably the hardest. Logan and I just want to meet our son so badly!!!

Side Note: I am beyond grateful for the pregnancy I have had. I hear so many experiences from other women that remind me how fragile life is, and how fortunate I have been. I am choosing to stay grateful for the good and not focus so much on the bad. It can be really easy to focus on myself and how hard pregnancy can be, but I have been given this little miracle and I want to show Heavenly Father that I love him and will do anything for him.

Until the next update,

Veronica Lila
